I just returned from my first visit to Montreal from Pa in the US. What a wonderful city! I did not know and was pleased to learn that a fireworks competition is held annually in Montreal. I was sorry that I had just missed it. I am a fireworks enthusiast of about 3 years and belong to several regional clubs. I am interested in viewing photos of the setups of the shows. Are there any galleries available to view such setups? I hope to return to Montreal next summer to view some of the competitions, as well as to enjoy the wonderful city of Montreal!

I have some pics of the chinese setup from last year and you can see them on my msn group (remember that this is a fench group)

Here's the link: http://groups.msn.com/Feuxdartifices/shoebox.msnw

I am also worling at the Lac des nations canadian competition at Sherbrokke since 7 years.

In 2002 i've decided to take picture of some setup and putting them online. I am doing this since this time. You can access these photos at these links:

Yes, Thank you. Merci! Very impressive. Are rockets used at all in any of the competitions?

matandch,

If you're interested to know in the way the competition is setup for each display in Montreal, then you can visit this link on this site. It's in the "Information" section of this site. I'll put the link:

http://www.montreal-fireworks.com/setup.html

Very detailed and great for understanding the "behind the scenes." You might also want to read about the other sub-topics in that section, especially the "projects" area. This gives an analysis of how a rocket is done and considering that you have an interest in rockets. Of course, rockets are used in our competition and in a great variety, too.

You'll be surprised at what goes on in our competition! Enjoy!

Regards,

Trav.

Rockets are used in the Montreal competition but, in general, they are not allowed to be used in Canada. However, a special exception is made for the competition. Many people mistakenly call shells "rockets". The things that are shot into the sky from mortars and explode are called shells; rockets are self-propelled and usually have a stick for guidance. It is because of the danger of injury from the falling sticks that rockets have been banned here.
