For djbono, it might be worth starting a new topic here on what's allowed / not allowed in the competition.

In the early days, one company (I believe Japanese) fired a 600mm (24"[img]http://montreal-fireworks.com/forum/img/smilies/wink.gif[ /img] shell - but it broke quite low and there was the fear that it could have set The Monster (wooden roller-coaster) on fire. Since then, the maximum calibre allowed is 300mm (12"[img]http://montreal-fireworks.com/forum/img/smilies/wink.gif[ /img] and no-one has gone above that since.

The only other rule I'm aware of is that shells which contain parachutes are not allowed. Again, because of the risk of setting things on fire or causing damage in the parking lots. However, we do see them from time to time and I don't believe there have been any problems.

In Canada in general, all products have to be on the ERD's "authorized list" - but an exception is made for international competitions (of which Montreal is one of several). This means that any product can be imported, except for the cases mentioned above. Thus we sometimes see rockets (as we did in the Brezac display) and many other shells from Europe that are not on the list. Even local companies are allowed to import for competition use - but the products are ONLY allowed for that use, they cannot be used in general displays and have to have paperwork to match this usage.

Thus, in Montreal, we get to see fireworks that would never be normally seen in Canada, adding to the prestige of the competition, IMHO.

Paul.
