Bonjour,

Merci

Bonjour Tanguy

There's not a whole lot of jobs in the special fx industry here. It's a pretty competitive market, and guys are pretty tight lipped and incestestuous. There is not an overwhelming demand for these techs.
This seems to be more of a fireworks (as in the aerial outdoor type) sort of forum as opposed to Special Effects.
Please keep in mind that you will need to be able to legally work in Canada, and you'll need to be properly certified through Explosives Regulatory Division (ERD) Natural Resources Canada. I'm not sure the exact times but if memory serves me correct, most Special Effects technicians must spend 2 years as Pyrotechnics assistant, then 2-3 years as Lead pyrotechnician and then you are able to apply for upgrade to Special Effects tech. I'm sure there are exceptions (as there are for everything) for this, depending on your experience.
Good luck with whatever you choose. What exactly is the problem with doing this in France? You say no business opportunities, but what does that mean? No one does it? No one needs it? No one wants the help?

Their is no needs in France, their is no action film nuisness in France. And rare sfx pyro designer have explosion a year (in good years).
It's not a problem for me te become a SFX guy step by step.

Another question .
What do you think about CGI special effects ? Would it kill the SFX guy'work ?

Regards,
