PRESS RELEASE

For immediate release

Spain's Pirotècnia Igual officially launches La Coupe du monde SAQ

The Spanish deliver a moving pyromusical requiem for world peace

June 18, 2004, Montreal - On Saturday, June 19, at 10 p.m., Pirotècnia Igual, Spain's talented fireworks masters will officially launch the race for the platinum Jupiter. During an emotionally-charged presentation, Montreal's sky will serve as backdrop for one of the largest peace-evoking displays in the world. To mark the occasion, Spain's Consul General in Montreal, Mr. Monsieur Arturo Reig Tapia, will deliver a speech on the floating stage at La Ronde's Lac des Dauphins during opening ceremonies at 9:30 p.m.

It is still possible to obtain tickets for reserved seating at La Ronde's Place du Canada (including unlimited access to rides) through the ADMISSION Network, at http://www.admission.com or by calling (514) 790-1245, or toll-free at 1-800-361-4595.

"We created "Lights for Peace" in reaction to March 11 bombings in Madrid and all the wars being waged around the world. Furthermore, our show is dedicated to the memory of our founder, Mr. Mario Igual Baseda, who died in March 2004," explains Albert Rovira-Bertran, of Pirotècnia Igual's creative team.

Since its creation, the world-renowned Spanish firm has garnered dozens of prestigious awards, including 3 bronze Jupiters (1987, 1992, 1999), a silver Jupiter (1996) and 2 Gold Jupiters (1988-2001) at the Montreal International Fireworks Competition-Le Mondial SAQ.

This year, Pirotècnia Igual is up for the only platinum Jupiter, the ultimate recognition of pyrotechnical mastery. The award will be presented for the very first time to the "winner of winners" of the past twenty years, during the closing ceremonies of the 20th anniversary edition of the Montreal International Fireworks Competition-la Coupe du Monde SAQ-on July 28, 2004.

Although the beginnings of Pirotècnia Igual date back to the end of the nineteenth century, it was founded by the Igual Baseda family in 1920. The company is Spain's leader in pyrotechnics and, since 1962, has had an office in Barcelona and a manufacturing facility in Canyelles. The company is also established in Chili where it operates an office and a store. Today, more than 60% of its production is dedicated to the exportation of fireworks and fireworks shows.

Created specifically for La Ronde's exterior fireworks infrastructures and amphitheatre, "Lights for peace" is comprised of 8 segments, which begin at a slow pace and intensify toward the crescendo of its grand finale. The presentation will include different combinations of three colours or less, including gold, orange, violet, blue and white. The display will be equally as diversified-with roman candles, palm trees, a high caliber of several pyrotechnical elements, as well as the incorporation of Pirotenica Igual's well-known nautical pieces. The presentation will end with a magical display, set to the heart-moving score of John Lennon's "Imagine."
