According to the press release, a 1-minute giant rainbow will be created during the show, themed on an imaginary carnival. Below is a significant part of the press release, which is available on CNW's website:

http://www.cnw.ca/fr/releases/archive/July2005/15/c1785.html

"MONTREAL, July 15 /CNW Telbec/ - At 10 p.m. this Saturday, July 16, the International des Feux Loto-Québec at La Ronde welcomes the fifth competing nation in this year's race for the Jupiter trophies: the Czech Republic. This marks the first participation by a Czech firm in Montréal since the fireworks competition began in 1985. For this début appearance, the Czech Republic is
represented by the firm FLASH BARRANDOV SFX of Prague, which in addition to putting on large-scale fireworks displays, creates special effects for the film industry. On Saturday, the Czech team will be out to impress jury members with its pyromusical performance Mystère, a magnificent spectacle inspired by
the famous Cirque du Soleil show of the same name.

Under the direction of designer Jaroslav Stolba, with assistance from special effects coordinator Pavel Sagner, the artisans of FLASH BARRANDOV SFX will present a performance that will take the audience on a two-day journey through an imaginary carnival, where music and fireworks blend in perfect harmony to create pyromusical poetry that is, quite simply, intoxicating.

Lyrical yet powerful, Mystère will be divided into three "Waking"
sections and three "Dreaming" sections, which promise to create a singular atmosphere fraught with emotion, inspiration-and above all, mystery. The soul of this very special performance is without doubt the magnificent musical score from the Cirque show, which will account for 50% of the musical content (and, incidentally was recorded in studios in both Prague and Montréal). The original music from Mystère will be supplemented with songs by Dead Can Dance and classical performances by violinist Vanessa-Mae.

The Czechs have more than surprises up their sleeves, including one very special effect that won't fail to take the La Ronde spectators' collective breath away: a pyrotechnical rainbow some 160 metres wide and 50 metres high which will activate for more than a minute and will cycle through a dozen dazzling colours. Also of note is the firm's decision to import pieces from 12 different manufacturers (mainly from Italy and Spain) to ensure the
performance includes the finest pyrotechnical effects available anywhere."

Please note that the same night, Cirque du Soleil will present the opening ceremony of the Swimming World Championship on Sainte-Hélène island too!

Fred,

Thanks for posting the press release. However, just to correct one thing in the release, this is going to be the "sixth" entrant this year, not the fifth.

This rainbow effect intrigues me. It will be definitely interesting to see such an effect. Otherwise, it's hard to think what we can expect, as we've never seen this country/firm before.

Finally, it's nice to know that some Italian and Spanish products will be used.

Regards,

Trav.

Trav,

You are right. The French version of the press release edited by La Ronde states the sixth contestant, but there is a mistake in the English version...

I would be interested to know how the firm's decision to import pieces from 12 different manufacturers is really exceptional? Paul, do you know if this is common or not? If it's exceptional, I would guess that we should expect a very wide range of pyrotechnic effects.

It's probably not so exceptional - especially for a company which isn't a manufacturer. For the display I did on Canada Day, we used products from nine different manufacturers and that wasn't as big a display as one in Montreal Of course, picking from 12 different companies does allow the designer to get exactly the effects he or she wants.

One interesting thing, though, about tomorrow's display is that it will be fired manually. I believe this is the only one this year that isn't digitally fired, except for the closing show which is always manual.

Cheers,

Paul.

Fred,

I'm sure we can expect a wide range of effects, especially since it's from many maufacturers and concentrated mainly from Spanish and Italian products, but this rainbow part should be very unique and judging its width and height, it should be magnificent! But one question, will it really be using all the colors of the rainbow spectrum, i.e. red, yellow, orange, blue, indigo, green and violet? I know it's obvious, but I'm eager to see how they'll execute this.

Paul,

I know the Panzera shows are manually fired, but is there a reason for that?

Regards,

Trav.

The song selection is very interesting.

I always listen a preview of each songs before watching the display. But just for the heck of it, here's a preview of each songs for tonight's show.

Note: the two last songs are fast beat songs. So I'm guessing there's feux finale? But I've downloaded the full song of Kunya Sobé and I'm not sure if it fits for a finale... The Devil’s Trill is a very beautiful song. It's actually a violin song, my favourite instrument

Enkil,

Indeed, a very interesting selection of songs. And I, too, love the last 2 songs. Very ideal for the end and a faux finale.

For the rest of the display, I have a feeling that these soundtracks will be ideal for their type of display, but I'm still a little skeptical with the connection to the main theme.

Also, since this is going manually fired display, synchronization could prove to be difficult, although it may be ideal depending on how they plan to execute certain things.
