Anyone going to Hull to see the last firework on Saturday August 13th? I think I might be going........I miss the fireworks so much already!

I would go if I had the chance but, unfortunately, this year I won't be able to. I can guarantee you'll have a good time if you go. The site is very good and all the displays I've seen there have been excellent.

Also, I think it will be great to write another report since it might stir up some memories!

Anyways, yes, I, too, miss the competition already. It's actually rather funny. When the past Saturdays and Wednesdays went, I almost thought that there was fireworks because we were so used to getting ready to go on those days...

Message to Trav and Paul!

Well, I went to Hull on Saturday evening I took my time and left around 5:30pm....took the 17 West instead of Highway 417 West because I wanted to enjoy the scenery! I arrived in Vanier (Ottawa) at 8 pm and went to Swiss Chalet for dinner.....and then, drove on Rockcliff Road by the Ottawa River, on the Ontario side! I parked the car and walked toward a lookout where people were gathered to watch the firework display. I was facing Lac Leamy where the casino is. The show started on time at 9:30, but they seemed to have had problems with the display. They sent rockets one by one every five minutes, so the show only started for good around 9:45. Since I am not very good with pyrotechnics terms, I will not go into details, but the show was "good" and slow paced, as I don't recall seeing really intense moments. It was enjoyable nonetheless, to see a firework display after being deprived for 14 full days.....LOL From where I was standing, the view was perfect, so I could see the display in its entirety......but I was a bit far from the action, in the sense that there was a delay between what I saw and the noises the rockets were making! Too bad that the speed of sound is not equal to the speed of light! This is one of the reasons why I like to watch the fireworks from the bridge during the Montreal competition! I get to watch the rockets explode at the same time I hear them!

Oh yes....you certainly want to know about the finale, right? Just teasing! At 10:13, it was easy to figure out that the finale had just started......the sky was getting brighter with numerous rockets being shot all at the same time, with a few salutes here and there in the lower part! A fun display for a firework lover like me (and all of us), but not worth traveling for 2 hours (4 hours return) for ordinary people who don't enjoy fireworks as much as we do! To me, it was a fun experience and it did fill the emptiness I feel these days, having to wait another 10 months before the next season!

I did record the finale, but it is small, due to the distance and not really worth watching, in my opinion, because clips always lose a lot of "feeling" to what it's like to watch a firework display "in person".

I know what you mean about Wednesdays and Saturdays.......they still remind me of when I was getting ready to go on the bridge. I drove on the Jacques-Cartier bridge yesterday (Sunday)....it felt weird to be driving this time, instead of walking on the pavement.....which I have been doing 10 times this Summer!

Anyone know who won the Competition In Hull

Nick Mitri and Pyro Spectacular of South Africa won this competition this year. Congratulations to Nick and his crew - that's the 3rd time they've won this competition!

I watched all of the competitions and Canada or Mexico should have won. I am not a fireworks expert but i was most wowed and dazzled by (in this order) Finale->Canada->Mexico->Spain->South Africa. It might have been that i was standing in the parking lot of the casino (Very good view!Awesome seeing a full gold sky!!, but can't see the water fireworks). I guess it must be more technical and the timing with the music that gets them the points.

It looks like you had a good time! At least you saw a decent finale! But, who really cares. You saw another fireworks show and that's what counts, and yes, it was well worth the trip.

As for the highways, I'm familiar with the 17 and its scenery! Good choice! I think some parts of the 417 are under construction, so it will be a bit slower and hectic. I know that because I was in Ottawa a couple days before you went.

Anyways, it was also nice to read you report! It brings memories to see those reports....

Yes, I had a great time watching the firework display in Hull It did cut on the waiting until next season. And you are right....sections of Highway 417 were still under construction. I realised that on the way back, but it went quite smoothly though There was not that much traffic, so it was fun.

I had a suggestion about the firework competition here in Montreal and maybe Paul can tell me where to forward my suggestion?

I thought it might be much better to have the displays only on Saturdays, instead of Wednesdays and Saturdays, like it is towards the end of the competition. People are usually more available on Saturdays than on Wednesdays.....and it would extend the competition to three more weeks. That way, we'd be able to watch the fireworks for more than 2 months during the Summer......and we'd have less than 10 months to wait until the next season......

Just a thought.

I'm happy to know that you had a safe and smooth drive back on the 417.

As for you suggestion, jeeze, this is what I wanted to ask since I've been on this forum!!!!!! It's an excellent idea to prolong the competition. And, indeed, it's harder for people to get there on Wednesdays vs. Saturdays! Plus, it's still in the summer time and it will make the summer feel longer. You know, when the fireworks season is finished, I feel that the summer is gone, too.

It's fun to see people talking about our event!

It's my first time talking to you all but I hope you'll keep writing.
I've got to say that we were extremely happy with all 5 shows this year and with all the new stuff we got to create in honor of our 10 edition (already!)...
Your comments are bang on : the intro (that's the time we take teach our spetators what we're all about) uses a few effects that are launched every 2-3 minutes or so... and they also serve as a warning that the show is about to start... and then we move on to the REAL presentation.
Hope some of you will get to come and experience the event on-hand next year, as you're probably missing most of the low-level effect and how the shows are magnified just by the Hilton's presence in the background.

Anyways, I'm familiar with the competition in Ottawa and I saw some of the shows in the past. They were quite stunning. And it's always very nice to feel the anticipation before the show starts. Everytime the shells and salutes are launched before the show starts in our competition, I always have that delightful feeling. The opening ceremony is most welcomed by all of us and actually encourages more and more people to start coming.
