There are a lot of things to talk about!

We don't know at this time how many recruits will perform at La Ronde in 2010 (3 or 4, IMO), but at least one for sure (Poland).

Since La Ronde announces "Canada" rather than "Québec-Canada", it should be a company from outside Quebec (Fireworks Spectaculars by Souza? Archangel?)

I cross my fingers that Goteborgs Fyrverkeri Fabrik will be back. It would be one of the most anticipated show of the season. Macedo's from Portugal may be back this year.

It's a little strange to have an off-competition display at the mid-point of the competition, I think it should have been scheduled for the closing night, rather than just a 10-minute display following the Jupiter ceremony (announced in the press release). Obviously, there are financial and marketing issues here. I guess that Panzera will perform the tribute to Céline Dion.

Fireworks Spectaculars by Souza Would be a US firm - I think you mean Fireworks Spectaculars, out of Calgary, who won in Sherbrooke in 2008 http://www.fireworksspectaculars.com

For Poland, it could be Flash Art http://www.flashart.com or Goldregen http://www.goldregen.com.pl

Italy might be the much anticipated Vaccalluzzo http://www.vaccalluzzo.it

France - many possibilities! Same for the US.

I'm pretty sure Sweden could be Goteborgs Fyrverkeri Fabrik.

As for Portugal? Maybe Macedos will return!

Lots to look forward to.

You are right, Paul! I had Brad Dezotell's company in mind, obviously, not Jim Souza's one.

I swear, the schedules are released earlier and earlier as the years go by (not that that's a problem).

An interesting distribution of competing countries to say the least, and it's nice to see that many of them that I had predicted for 2010 did in fact make an appearance, namely Portugal, France, Italy, Canada and USA (who are, again, back to back). I also had Sweden as an alternative choice, so it's a pleasure to have them as part of the competitors. Additionally, I predicted that the displays would take place once per week (on Saturdays) for 2010, and it appears that became reality - the competition is lasting for a good two months. I find it neat that my brother is having a display falling on his birthday, and Italy (hopefully I.P.O.N SRL) to boot. Poland and Taiwan were the most unexpected for me.

The only thing I don't really care for is that hommage to Celine Dion stationed dead smack in the middle of the competition, as it takes up a spot for another potential entrant - it probably would have been more appropriate if a participant concocted a theme centered around her greatest hits for a display. It also seems that there is a new trend for closing shows, seeing that there is again only a 10 minute display following the awards ceremony. That would make for two years in a row that Panzera hasn't done a closing.

Anyhow, I'm similarly hoping that some of my predictions regarding the representing firms are correct.

oh wow the line up is looking pretty good hopefully san tai would be back for taiwan.

Well here's my wishes with the given countries

Taiwan - San tai or maybe Wan Dar?
Italy - Vaccalluzzo!! or parente or ipon
Poland - Surex
Portugal - Macedos / luso?
USA - Atlas xD Pyrospectaculars by souza
Canada - Apogee
Sweden - Gotenburgs fyverkeri fabrik!! (probably would be one of the better shows)
France - Groupe f or intermede or pyrogramme or Prestatech... too much great companies there.
I'm already so excited for the videos of next year's competition

Nice LINE -UP! Love to see Poland in the shedule !

I think Surex will represent Poland, but I don't really know.

I would like to see Vaccaluzzo or IPON representing Italy and Luso Portugal, I'm not into Macedo's displays.

It's hard to say which company will represent France and USA. Both countries have great companies. Atlas could be great for USA, but why not Pyrotechnico or Pyrospecacular by Souza again. Remember for example Igual was in Montreal in 2007 and also in 2009. Why not Pyrotecnico in 2008 and 2010? For France... I would rather Jacques Coutourier than Groupe-F, but both are great.

SWEDEN... Goteborgs again, this is sure, right? [ edit by Paul: we won't know for sure until Feb / March ]
Canda: Hard, but I would like Apogee.

I don't know which company could represent Taiwan.

I know it will not be Pyrotechnico for the USA - they're competing in Vietnam in 2010. I'm also fairly sure it will not be Atlas for several reasons which I won't go into here. I'm also pretty certain Apogee cannot compete in Montreal because Alain Carboneau runs the competition at Lac Leamy in Gatineau.

As for Taiwan, what other companies are there apart from San Tai?

I hadn't heard of Surex, but they sure have some nice videos http://www.surex.pl

For Italy, as much as I love Benito's work, I want to see Vaccaluzzo. As for France, there are many good companies. We've already had Groupe-F and it was something of an anticlimax (as they were so hyped over their 2000 display on the Eiffel Tower etc.). Brezac's display in 2006 ranks as one of the best displays I've ever seen in Montreal so I wonder if they will be back to try for gold?

Lots of exciting possibilities.

Also, I asked the organizers who will be doing the Celine Dion display and they told me it's still being determined. I wonder, then, if 2010 will be the first time we don't have a Panzera display? Though given the task of assembling a pyro-worthy soundtrack from Celine's music, surely only Pierre Walder could pull that off successfully?

Salut

Vraiment intéressant mais avant d'acheter des billets je vais attendre de connaître le nom des firmes participantes incluant celle qui fera le spectacle hommage à Céline.

Roger qui vous souhaite des fêtes vraiment explosives avec votre famille et vos amis.

"Apogee" is an interesting name for a fireworks company as it relates to a particular lunar phase. Apogee is the point at which the Moon is farthest away from the Earth in its orbit - the closest distance is referred to as the Perigee. Similarly, the Earth's farthest distance relative to the Sun is the Aphelion phase (which occurs in early July) and, conversely, the Perihelion, occurring in early January, is the term used to describe the shortest approach.

Just brought that up out of interest after noticing it mentioned a couple of posts above. This leads me to wonder if many fireworks firms are named after aspects of our solar system, or space, in general - I know that some terms assigned to pyrotechnic effects are related to celestial objects based on their appearance, such as "stars", "comets" or "Saturn shells".

Italy - Vaccalluzzo!! or parente or ipon

I talked to Benito, he won't be participating this year, but he said most probably next year. So that's good news!

Hey everyone, it's been a while, the forum has been quiet since I last visited, I'm happy to see who's participating. However, I'd love to see what Canada would put in. I'm agreeing with many others and saying it might be Apogee, but I've never seen them, so it should be pleasant. I'm not happy with France being last however...

Has anyone noticed a difference with the schedule? For once in a few years, Canada will be putting a display after United States. That I'm most happy about! . Because alot of the times that United States puts a display after Canada, they have the better chance of winning.

Well, Paul, Trav, Fred, Rovira, Vander and Passion, welcome back! It's great to finally get to the forum again!

Take it easy!

It definitely won't be Apogee as they run the Casino de Lac Leamy competition in Gatineau. But I can now confirm that Göteborgs Fyrverkeri Fabrik will be competing for Sweden

Apogee is also the position a shell explodes at - i.e. at the peak height of its travel from the mortar. Well, except for skymines and other shells that explode on the way up!

I was thinking taht Rozzis Famous Fireworks could represent also the States. They won the silver (or bronze?) jupiter in 2005. I was in La Ronde that night and it was a great display. The theme was fine, not very creative but nice devoloped and the music was great. I still remember the Overture to William Tell sequence with the salutes PERFECTLY synchronized and the precision in general used in the display with the shells. Also I remember the nautic effects filling the lake... definitly it was a great performance !

I vote for Rozzi's !
