The winner of Les Grands Feux du Casino (Hull/Gatineau) is the Russian team, Centre of Fireworks Khan. It was new entrant to this competition, as well as Venefuegos Fireworks (Venezuela). Other contestants were Parente Fireworks and Hermanos Caballer.

Hi Fred,

Exactly how many firms in Spain have a surname of Caballer? So far, I've heard of Vicente, Recardo, and now, Hermanos. Rovira cleared up the confusion between Vicente and Ricardo, but are there any more firms that have a identical surnames?

Unfortunately, I do not really know how that competition operates with respect to its evaluation criteria. I was looking through a Yahoo search, but I can't find exactly what I'm looking for (this is usually the case anyway). However, I'm assuming that the evaluation is similar to that of our competition, but I'm not sure if this is in fact a pyromusical competition. Looks like it's predominantly based on sound and light.

The competition at Lac Leamy in Gatineau is, indeed, a pyromusical competition. I've been there a few times myself (and have photos that I took here: http://www.montreal-fireworks.com/photos-hull2001.html ).

When I attended, the jury was composed of various local dignitaries such as people from the area's TV and radio stations, that kind of thing. I'm not sure how the judging is performed now.

As for Caballers, there is yet another one: Antonio Caballer S.A. ( http://www.caballer.com ). They haven't competed in Montreal yet, but have been at the other competitions in Canada.

Another important fireworks company in Spain is Zaragozana - they won the Bronze Jupiter in 1991.

Thanks for the information, Paul. Since it is a pyromusical competition, then I'd imagine that the judging is of the same idea as our own to some extent.

As for the Spanish firms, I actually remember the performance in 1991, and I must say that the team did one heck of a finisher that year, too! With luck, they will make another appearance at our competition, as well as firms that we have not witnessed as of yet with respect to Spain.

I don't believe we've seen Hermanos Caballer either, but if they do indeed attend, I hope they'll scare us with a big finisher along with a powerful overall display!

Btw, I've heard that Igual means "same" or "equivalent" in English.
