I still wouldn't take out the possibility.

It could be just the "calm before the storm" scenario.

Although, as you say, Environment Canada is saying 40%, It's possible to fall within that 40%!

I just have that feeling.......

This reminds me of Italy in 1994, when we took for granted a 30% chance of heavy thunderstorm, and surprise surprise, it came, right before the display. Lots of thunder and lightning and one heck of a lot rain. So much rain that you couldn't see in front of you.
I remeber it so well. I literally looked like I took a shower!

Anyways, Enkil, if you and I see rain coming, make sure you've got a place to take shelter. I've probably got to go under the bridge! Be careful up there! I don't think there's anywhere to run on the bridge! Just make sure you bring lots of umbreallas. That's what I'm doing! I took a glimpse at Ottawa's weather and they're reporting light rain showers and thunder with a cool 20 degrees. Eeek!

Hopefully, it will hold off until after I make it to the car after the display. For some odd reason, I still feel that I shouldn't trust this weather. I've still got that feeling........

Anyways, enjoy the show. I guess we can talk more about it tonight, when we get back.

Regards,

Trav.

Show notes will come later from more qualified observers, but the weather worked out great - a little humid, but nonetheless a great night for fireworks (and a lot c ooler than Texas!)

Posted: Jul 15, 2004 08:55:53

Yep...turned out to be an awesome weather night. Just a quick sprinkle in the 8PM timeframe that barely lasted 5 minutes.

Even my long drive home was rather devoid of heavy rain, just the occasional quick shower.

My new thing to hate in Montreal...construction. :sigh:

Spent over 90 minutes trying to get through A-20, through a portion that was closed, but I for the life of me couldn't see any reason why...

Finally drove down back roads (glad to have brought the map) to get around it.

Hello again,

It appears that Sunny International could also be threated by showers and thunderstorms.

The forecast for this Saturday is calling for thundershowers, followed by a 60% chance of precipitation. The winds will be light at 10 km/h coming from the North. Humidity and dewpoint levels will be high, once again, which should give some descent humidex values. As for the temperature, it will be humid with high of 25, or more, degrees. I wouldn't be surprised if it felt like more than that.

The good news is that we still don't know the evening forecast, yet. Lets hope all this changes.

Once again, the threat of rain is there. We could still get lucky, like last time, and end up having a good day!

Anyways, I'll post the latest updates, when I receive them.

Enkil, any news from Environment Canada?

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 16, 2004 12:24:15

This is good!

The chances have gone down to 30%, leaving it as a risk of thunderstorms, instead of just straight thundershowers. Everything else is the same. Plus, the threat may die off by the evening! Good news!

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 16, 2004 12:49:35

EC is reporting cloudy skies, with 60% cha. rain

i dont think it will rain, but we have to wait and see

Posted: Jul 16, 2004 14:21:58

Ok, that's not that bad.

The Weather Network still says 30% chance of thundershowers in the afternoon. However, I suspect that nothing will happen! the threat may die off during the evening!

Anyways, the evening forecast will be released later this evening.

I also have a feeling that China will be good.

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 16, 2004 17:14:23

Weather Nwtwork is reporting 30% for the evening, but no rain, its going to be humid

anyways, China will be good, i dunno if u heard Smoke, before 10pm last Wednesday, Eric Dodlin on Cite 107.3 said that China will have alot of fireworks (materials) something like that, anyhow he sounded as if it will be good
i hope ill be able to see

unfortunatly, this might be the last competitor im going to be seeing, i believe next week, im going to Niagara Falls, with my family, ill try to convince them not to go during Wednesday

then, next weekend, we'll be going to Boston, to meet a family member there, theres no way he can take a day off during weekdays

im sure im going to miss the winner of this year, and im sure its either China, France or Germeny! the last ones always wins!

Enkil,

I saw the forecast for this evening and it's very good! It's calling for a 20% chance of precip. and very warm and humid temperatures, followed by variable clouds. A really perfect evening for the Sunny International team. The temperature will hover around 24 to possibly 26 or 27 degrees this evening. The humidity will be high at 61%, not to mention the dewpoints. As a result of these two factors, the humidex values will be in the 30+ degree range area, making it really nice. I love it when it's hot and humid, especially on nights!

Anyways, I think I did here someone say something about China's display on a radio next to me, last time. I hope it will be good! They're usually good, when I saw them in previous years. They'll probably be even better this year!

As for you missing the rest of the competition, that's a real shame! Out of all times! I feel bad that you won't be here for the climax of the 20th anniversary! It's something you don't want to miss. Well, if that's the case, I'll try to inform you as much as I can. And who knows, things could change!

Anyways, are you still coming on De Lorimier and Notre-Dame, tonight?

And BTW, my birthday happens to be on Wednesday, and it looks like France is playing on that day.....the 21st of July! A big treat for me, especially on the 20th anniversary of the competition! Also, it's kinda special for me because I'm turning 20! And plus, it's going to be sizzling hot! A high of 30 degrees or more! Pretty cool, heh?

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 17, 2004 09:28:28

yes lol

yup im going tonight at ure place

as i said we just went on the bridge last Wednesday for my aunt to see the view, unfortunatly she forgot to bring her camera to take picture of downtown, but theres im not going back there!

u know, last Wednesday, we ure very near from ure place, we walked alot, there wasnt alot of ppl becuz of the weather i can say i saw everything from the lower parts, but its impossible to find that place, cuz its taken very quickly, so u have to come very early

despite all these facts, i find ure place much better, cuz its closer the closer the better!

Posted: Jul 17, 2004 10:52:53   Edited by: Smoke

Enkil,

Perfect weather conditions for tonight's show! Almost like Italy's night!

Anyways, I'm glad that you're coming to my spot and I'm delighted that you like it!

Anyways, I'm still monitoring the weather in case of any changes, although I doubt that will happen! Also, it looks like France and my birthday, which is July 21st, are going to receive a sizzling day with no chance of rain.

Well, I hope that you'll be able to attend the rest of the shows, somehow.

Anyways, I had a question for you. Are you planning on viewing from where I watch, from now on? I think you told be before, though. And just to make sure everything is good, could you give me an update on what Environment Canada is saying? I know the weather Network is still saying the same, which is good. 20% probability of precipitation, with high humidity, roughly 61%, with variable clouds. The winds should be light in nature coming from the Northeast at 10-15 km/h. The big thing is the humidity.

I'm even surprised that nothing happened last time, despite all the weather threats for Holland!

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 17, 2004 11:18:58

yes i will watch from ure place, from now on

EC is reporting 30 percent chance of showers with a risk of a thunderstorm
sure they say a risk of a thunderstorm, but 90% of the time nothing happens, so theres nothing to worry about
meteorologists always say the worst thing that could happen, and many ppl fall for it

Posted: Jul 17, 2004 12:36:40

In summary, a very lovely evening. You really can't ask for more.

I don't think we'll have to worry as much as last time.

The rest of the week is looking July like! Very hot and humid.

Do you know the soundtrack that they'll use for their display? And have you read the press release, yet? I really want to read it. I don't know if Paul's going to post it.

BTW, Enkil, sometimes you can try out the view at the steel gate all the way up front on Notre-Dame. That's probably the closest and nicest view. The only problem is that you'll have to go early because people take those spots rather quickly. I used to go there back in 2000 and before, back to 1990. Since 2001, I've been standing on De Lorimier and Notre-Dame intersection.

Regards,

Trav.

i believe all the tracks will be in Chinese

Enkil,

It appears that the thunderstorm came, after all. It was only a 30% chance and it just happened! Did you hear those thunder booms! I don't know if it was in your area, though.

I hope that the energy isn't still there to give the lift needed for another storm! It was pretty strong! I wouldn't take out the possibility.

Now, the bad news is that there's now the risk of thunderstorms this evening and the risk has gone up to 30%! Damn! Well, if it happened this afternoonm it can happen again! I hope not! From what I hear in the press release, it's going to be huge!

Trav.

Posted: Jul 17, 2004 14:19:36

i see

EC, now reporting 60 percent

yes i did hear the storm, it was rain for about 5 min
but right now its sunny, with a bit of clouds

it was just massive cloud that passed by, nothing serious

again, its not a stable system

and again, we can either get heavy rain or no rain, but im sure everything will be ok, the more the night progresses, the chances of raining is lower

the Weather Networks will be updated again tonight around 7:30 (i think) if it stays at 30% or 40% i think it will be ok

i bet we're just talking for nothing, damn weather meteologists! and the hell with these rain threats!

Posted: Jul 17, 2004 15:33:09

I know what you mean! The chance pops up right at the last minute! I guess I was right. We cannot take out the possibility.

The airmass is very humid, which fed that storm. It was a well organized system, from what I observed and plus, I had the opportunity to see it develop. I can tell you that those cloud formations were so beautiful. I was even going to take a picture of those massive towering cumulus clouds! They were simply astonishing. They just blossomed so quickly and when I heard the thunder roared, I said "oh no."

Well anyways, The Weather Network still says a 30 or 40% chance. I'm really going to be looking out for anything, when I get there. The rain gives no breaks to fireworks, sometimes! Lets hope we're spared, like last time! I also think we're just talking for nothing. I doubt it will happen.......................maybe.

Regards,

Trav.

Hi Smoke

its happy to say, that we have pushed back our vacations

if everything goes right, i will be able to attend Wednesday's night show

unfortunality for me, i wont go to Germany's show, becuz ure going to the US, theres no way we can go another time

althro i know it bad for me to miss Germany, but i just wish the winner will be the country i saw, i hope...

i wanted to ask u, on Cite 107.3 last Saturday they said something about Eiffel tour, did u get it? what was Eric trying to say?

btw i want to corret a misunderstanding, i told u on this topic that from now on i was going to go at ure place, but i only meant this year

this year i went with the car, becuz i made a deal my sister and plus my aunt also loves fireworks, so we always went with the car

but maybe next year i wont be able to go with the car everytime, but i will be on Parc Jean Drapeau like i used too

or maybe i will come at ure place using the subway

Wednesday looks good 30% cha. and hot!

Posted: Jul 20, 2004 08:19:29

Hi Enkil,

At least that you'll be able to see France. The funny thing is that if you miss Germany's show, that could be one of the best!

I'm not sure I heard much on the radio last time. I thought I heard Eric talking about something, but I couldn't get it. Sorry.

And who knows, maybe you'll change you're mind next year. I mean you might actually consider viewing form my area most of the time next year!

BTW, did you watch on De Lorimier last time, or were you on Notre-Dame? I think I said this already, but I decided to go to my old area last time, for old times sake! That place was at the steel gate on Notre-Dame. An excellent viewing spot. Right in front of the whole thing. The reason for this is because some of my other relatives decided to come, so they wanted to go there, instead. It was great to be back!

As for the weather, yes it will be hot with a 20-30% chance of precipitation, followed by varable cloudiness and relatively light winds. It will be humid and hazy. Dewpoints and humidity levels are on the rise! This will increase humidex readings, once again! Typical summer day.

However, the only slight problem is the weather for tomorrow evening. I think there's a small low pressure system coming in 2 days, so I'm not sure if the chance will increase tomorrow evening, although I'm sure that nothing will happen! Well, I'm just not ignoring the possibility! Tomorrow evening's forecast will be revealed tonight.

Also, tomorrow is my birthday! I think I told you already, though, but it feels good to celebrate my 20th birthday with a display from the 20th anniversary! It's a treat, as well as an honor!

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 20, 2004 09:13:27

u know, there 1 in 8 chances that Germany win, but as always, everything goes wrong for me, so im sure they will come out as a winner!

there is an Eiffel tower, they said it in the press rls!! 12m high looks interessing

btw tonight i might be going on Parc Jean Drapeau with the car, to see the Casino, and the whole parc for my aunt

i will see what this Eiffel tower is like and post it here, althro i hope its already build

hopefully ill go!

Posted: Jul 20, 2004 09:55:56   Edited by: Smoke

Yes, I just saw and read the press release. Hmm...2 towers. Reminds me of Holland's show. I think this show is going to be very creative and unique! The title also reminds of Portugal's, last year, too. I read some more information and background on the E-mail that Mondial SAQ sent me. It's sounds interesting.

I wonder if they will blow out paper and cardboard everywhere, like in 1993! This was the firm that represented France that year!

Anyways, if you do go tonight or whenever, I guess you can tell me all about it, I mean if you saw it, the towers. It looks good! Enjoy the view of the casino, too. It's really beautiful!

Well, as always, I'll try to post tomorrow evening's forecast as soon as I receive it!

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 20, 2004 20:29:04

theres 0% cha. of shower tomorow, with a 25oC, a perfect night for the show!

btw Smoke, we were unable go on parc Jean Drapeau, there was some talking about going toomorow morning, but we're not sure

anyways, doesnt matter, i have a feeling France will come out as a winner, i feel that those 2 towers will be something very amazing, i hope we will be albe to see it well

Posted: Jul 21, 2004 03:59:07   Edited by: Smoke

Perfect summer evening tonight! No threat of rain, like the last 2 times, although nothing happened, except for that loud thunderstorm in the afternoon, last Wednesday!

The temperature will be at 26-28 degrees, but because of high dewpoints and high relative humidity percentages, it will make the humidex values feel like 31, or more, degrees Celcius. Basically, a very hot and humid evening! The winds will be light in nature at 10km/h, coming from the south.

As for the display tonight, I think it should be good, because of the towers and choice of music. I have a feeeling it will be very similar to Holland's show, but I'm hoping and looking for a much stronger finale! I'm sure that the general concept will be intriguing, though.

BTW, if you're going this morning, could you tell me if you saw the towers and what they look like?

Regards,

Trav.

Hello,

Germany is getting very lovely weather tomorrow. The only problem is that it's going to be cooler than we've experienced recently. The high during the day tomorrow is about 22 degrees followed by sunny skies, which may help raise the initial temperature. The winds will be relatively light in nature at roughly 15 km/h from the northeast. So, not a bad day, in general.

The only thing is that it may be a bit on the cool side in the evening. Definitely a big difference in what we felt a couple of days ago! All this is thanks to a small cold front coming through, bringing cooloer and drier air as it does. I hate that! Well, could've been worse. At least it isn't raining!

The good news about all this is that tomorrow looks like the only cool day. After that, it really gets hot again, as of Sunday into Monday. Also, looks like Panzera is getting a sizzling day! A high of 28 degrees, or more, with sunny skies! (So far)

Could this actually be a year with all displays getting blessed with excellent weather, despite some of the cool nights in the earlier parts of the competition? I think this would be the first time, indeed!

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 27, 2004 12:46:25

Hello again,

I just got the latest update of tomorrow's forecast for the Panzera closing show and it looks pretty descent. It's calling for a 40% chance of precipitation under mainly cloudy skies. The winds should be light in nature coming from the east at around 10km/h. However, taking into consideration the high dewpoint values mixed in with the relative humidity at 74%, the humidex readings should be constant at 29 or more degrees Celcius. The high tomorrow is at 23 or even more, depending if we get enough lift and solar energy. Appears to be a comfortable day! I love it!

However, I've yet to see the evening forecast, so I'll let you guys know what happens, as soon as I get the update later today!

Regards,

Trav.

Well, I have received some great news!

Tomorrow evening's forecast was just revealed! The forecast is calling for clearing in the evening with variable cloudiness, followed by a 20% chance of precipitation. The temperature should still be steady anywhere between 22-25 degrees, depending on the location. Humidity should drop to about 67%, while humidex values should stay just above the initial expected temperature. As for dewpoints, they should be mediocre, but not enough to get really high humidex readings, since the air won't be that dry. So, there will be some moon, but a lot of cloud.

In summary, a great evening for the closing show! This actually may be my final weather report for the competition! And what a perfect weather forecast season it was. How ironic to have it on the 20th anniversary! What a blessing, indeed!

Does anyone remember another year when this happened? I think I recall another one...

Anyways, if they're any changes, I'll post them, or if you guys see anything, please let me know!

Regards,

Trav.

Posted: Jul 28, 2004 07:38:11

Greetings,

Well, this is a turn of event. This is my fault, I should've said the absolute latest forecast!

Sorry to say, but despite my "last weather report," the forecast has gotten a lot worse. This evening's forecast is reporting cloudy skies with showers. The winds are still light in nature with speeds of a small 5 km/h, coming from the south. Humidity is on the rise at now 88% and I suspect that dewpoints will increase from their initial value, since the last 24 hour period. This should mean that the air will be more dense since humidity is high and thus, the airmass will possibly be unstable. The dynamics are definitely there to create rain showers and possible embedded thunderstorms throughout the day.

However, the good news is that all of this is a 40% chance. In the past we've had the threat of rain, with even higher chaces, like 80%, and yet, nothing happened.

The only problem is, we've had an outstanding and unbeatable weather record for this year, the 20th anniversary. It's possible and logical to assume that something could happpen at the last display.......I doubt it!

I hate this! Enkil, any updates with Environment Canada?

Trav.

Posted: Jul 28, 2004 11:03:59

i wouldnt worry

EC is reporting 40% cha. with the moon, so if it rains it will be for a very short time

ill check the system on cnn.com at 4pm, the map will be updated,

Posted: Jul 28, 2004 12:48:00

Enkil,

The Weather Network says the same thing. Cloudy with showers and a 40% chance. I'll also check some weather maps and check this airmass and some other weather map sources. They should give me a rough interpretation of this low pressure system.

Let me know of any changes. I'll update any reports at that time, if neccessary.

I'm a little worried because it's raining quite a bit out there. Who knows, we might get lucky! Here we go again!

BTW, are you going up front on Notre-Dame tonight for the Panzera closing show?

Trav.
