I attended one of the displays of the Grands Feux du Casino de Lac Leamy last evening (http://www.feux.qc.ca/English/Page/Entry.htm). Royal Pyrotechnie, last year's Mondial SAQ Gold Jupiter winner, were representing Canada in the final competing display of this competition.

Threatening weather gave way to clear, cool and perfect condititions for the 25 minute display, entitled "Rhythm in the Sky". Thematically inspired by their Gold Jupiter winning entry, this display was designed specially for the lake-based firing site at the Casino. A huge audience cheered enthusiastically throughout the display, particularly when many flights of gold glittering double-ascension girandolas rose, fell and then rose again into the air. The display, like their Montreal one, used some very interesting angles for comets and mines and was perfectly synchronized to the music. The audience particularly enjoyed the finale which began with some very loud dragon's eggs cakes and comets, rising to a crescendo of barrages of very large shells.

I've seen several displays at this competition over the past few years and I have to admit that last night's was the most complex and well synchronized display I've seen there. Her's hoping Team Canada bring home the Casino de Lac Leamy Zeus award.

The Grand Finale will be held this coming Saturday 14th August, with a display which incorporates elements from all the competitors. It is definitely worth a visit for anyone in the National Capital region, or beyond.

also, how long does it take to drive to Gatineau?

The competition displays are 25 minutes. Gatineau is about 2 hours from Montreal - the quickest way is to drive to Ottawa and then take Highway 5 into Quebec - the Casino is just a few minutes from the bridge over the Ottawa river. Definitely worth the drive!

How was the finale? Must've been cool! A 25 minute display isn't that bad! Only five minutes less than ours!

Anyways, also, how fast were you going to get to Gatineau? I was in Ottawa the day Germany was presenting and we got there in less than 2 hours. Of course, we were driving at a fairly steady pace. It depends on how fast and where you're driving. However, I know, approximately, that Ottawa/Gatineau is roughly that distance, about 1:50-2:00 hours.

Despite that, I know what you mean, it's definitely worth the drive!

Je suis très heureux de la victoire de Royal Pyrotecnie au concours du Lac Leamy. Sur le site de la compétition j'avais pris connaissance du contenu de la trame sonore. Je savais alors qu'il y aurait des similitudes majeures avec le spectacle présenté à Montréal en 2003, une présentation que j'avais d,ailleurs vivement appréciée.
Pour information lu sur le site que Royal va lancer un grand feu d,artifice pyro-musical dans le cadre des célébrations je crois du 175 ième anniversaire de St-Pie. Je ne me souviens pas de la date mais je vais tout faire pour y assister.Je suis déjà en manque de feux d'artifices. (hi hi)
On m'apprend aussi que Concept Fiatlux a gagné la compétition de Québec devant les chutes Montmorency. Je suis aussi très content pour eux dont la prestation m,avait grandement décu lors de leur dernier passage au Mondial SAQ.

The St-Pie 175th Anniversary display is this coming Saturday 21st August. I'm hoping to attend.

For the other Canadian competition winners, I've updated my "competitions" page with the winners of the Vancouver competition (Fyrverkeri Experterna from Sweden) who also won the "Coup de coeur" award from the Quebec City public for their performance in the chutes Montmorency competition. I'll also update the winner of the Calgary Global Fest competition when I know it. Yanick Roy of Royal will be presenting the closing display in that competition in collaboration with Brad Dezautels.

I should have also mentioned that I worked on a display for Royal in Verdun on August 7th for the new balloon festival they're having there. Look out for that next year too!

Finally, I can also confirm that Royal Pyrotechnie will be presenting the Canada Day display in Ottawa again next year after their critically aclaimed debut performance there this year.
