Seems that we all have similarities in opinion towards this display. If you recall my statement from around when the full fireworks schedule first came out, I mentioned that I was not confident in Concept Fiatlux's ability to deliver an appropriately strong finish, or and overall grand display. Unfortunately, it turns out that those sentiments were indeed correct given what we had seen Saturday.

The worstest boring show i ever seen..

Definitely one of them. However, I still think that South Korea 1994 was the most boring display to date, although the closing of 2009 wasn't a far cry away from that.

The worstest boring show i ever seen..

I think everyone is being rather harsh. I think the main problem is that expectations were set that were unreasonably high. There have been many shows over the years that have been truly disappointing - I won't name any names, but they're all there in my reports to discover for yourselves.

Cause I worked with fiatlux last year, I leave that company cause they insulted me cause i am moved to another city during summer and they never giving me my letter of reference to pass my level 1

I never know exactly the reason why but its still linked with my past work at the night crew at laronde fireworks.

I know well that company and i'm discouraged to their fireworks show!

I'm totally dissapointed at all!

And i'm sorry mais j'ai gagé a ma copine 5h a l'avance que l'feux serait plate, j'ai eu l'droit a une belle récompense.

My 2 cent.

We should all cross our fingers for Royal! They are defeneltey a Jupiter winner!

I'm sincerely hoping that they claim first place. As I had omitted in the introduction in my review for the winners, I think, in my humble opinion, that Canada was the exceptional display of 2009 - it reminded me of Portugal of last year in many ways, particularly in design and choreography.

I'm just worried about the results, given what had happened last year.

Go Canada!!!

Yes, the exceptional display this year. But I highly doubt that Canada was any close to Portugal's last year. Portugal managed to perfectly synchronise their flag in the finale, and it was mostly about movies, like MI, Romeo and Juliet, the FOX opening theme (which I cannot recall the title) and very enjoyable effects like the MI theme once again, with the small gerbs aligned to resemble as a fuse and a massive mine resembling as the explosion from the movie, it was a very enjoyable display. Where as Canada this year managed to bring effects and added conductive music which made the sequences move at good pace, as for the finale, they set off dozens of gold studata's, gold brocade shells and gold kamuros mixed in barrages with salutes below. Where as Grupo Luso, had dozens of red, green, white and yellow shells, for a longer period of time. I honestly say Royale was very nice in barrages and gold, but Portugal last year gave us more than what we expected (color, noise, and a nice THE END ending).

Paul, don't you find Royale used stuadata's and multi-breaks more often than any other shell in the display?

Go Canada!!!
All the way Trav!

Good comparison, Pat.

Also, Portugal 2008 had a better sense of thematic direction, which really helped the display stay right on track and therefore well built and supported. Also, as you said, Portugal's finale was much more exciting and dazzling, though there could have been a better choice in color for the comets below (nothing serious, though). The color transitions were reminiscent of a similar approach taken by the U.S in 2003 in their dramatic close.

Canada's display this year was well designed, but again lacked a good supporting theme. However, the choreography, to me, stood out as the best compared to all the other competitors, and therefore really made the display most enjoyable in terms of creativity and complexity for my tastes. The music choice was interesting and the colors were quite dazzling and in a huge variety, as were the effects along side. The towers were well utilized and the sequences were excellent. The waterfall that appeared near the center was also intriguing when present. Canada was also the least redundant, in my opinion.

Canada all the way.

Does anybody recall a waterfall two years back? Was it Canada or Germany? When only half of it was going off? Quite an embarassment if it was Canada, but that finale went of amazingly!

I would wear a Royal shirt on Saturday, but I won't be attending. Best of luck to Royal!

Roger
