Now that the 39th edition has concluded, our attention turns to the 2026 season, which will mark the 40th anniversary of this event. This milestone was originally scheduled for 2024 but was postponed due to the two-year suspension caused by the pandemic.

During the closing ceremony on July 31, 2025, Benoît Lefrançois, Loto-Québec's Corporate Vice President of Responsible Marketing, Social Responsibility, and Public Affairs, concluded his speech by saying: «I look forward to seeing you in 2026 to celebrate the 40th International Fireworks Competition Loto-Québec.» I have received confirmation that Loto-Québec's multi-year sponsorship contract with the Montreal International Fireworks Competition, set to expire in 2025, has been extended by one year. Therefore, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the 40th edition is confirmed.

Various rumors are circulating about the features of this special edition. The most serious rumor is that it will bring together competitors who have already won a Jupiter award. However, it is unclear if only recipients of the Gold Jupiter will be invited, as was the case in the 20th edition in 2004, or if competitors who have won Jupiters of various colors will be invited, as was the case in the 30th edition in 2014.

The organizers seem to have a lot of ideas. We will see which of them will materialize.

Stay tuned!

Just to make a small correction, the 2014 30th Edition season was not composed of only Gold-Jupiter winners; Foti and Brezac had previously attained both Bronze and Silver, but not Gold.

I'm hoping the 40th Edition will not have any previous Gold Jupiter winners — I want to see companies that came close but were unlucky to be in a season where they were just beaten. There are quite a few companies that are in this category — they would have won Gold with a different line-up. We can think of Goteborgs, Brezac, Foti to name at least three.

This is why I wrote they had won Jupiters of various colors, in contrast with Gold only.

If the selection is good it could be a great season indeed. But the bet is not as safe as a gold only edition.

Not to mention in terms of impact and marketing the competition a Gold only edition is much better to sell. I feel the 2004 season did a great service to the competition in terms of popularity with the platinum Jupiter. At least it had an impact on me and next year I just traveled for the first time to Montreal just for the fireworks.

Also interesting to note is that weather conditions managed to stay dry during all display times for the 20th and 30th editions, despite the strong wind issue for the Italian show in 2014. Hopefully, this will resonate with the 40th edition!
